Our History

Ashley P. Beggs and Family, along with the excellent staff of Beggs Funeral Home, proudly serves your family with the same personal care and dedication that has been passed down from generation to generation. Beggs Funeral Home has been Madison Florida’s longest single family operated funeral home, opening its doors in 1886. Beggs hosts two convenient locations in Madison County, Taylor County. Beggs Funeral Home has orchestrated compassionate, individualized life celebrations and funeral services in our communities. We understand the importance of our role during times of loss, we work hard to maintain trust and foster a caring relationship with those who look to us. T. J. Beggs Sr. better known as “Tom” began his young career in a general store owned by W.L. Parramore, they sold numerous types of merchandise, including caskets. T.J. Beggs Sr. aka “Tom” married Miss Helen Parramore and in 1886 incorporated T.J. Beggs and Company.

Born to Tom and Helen Beggs were four children: Helen, Ann,Tom Jr. and Dot. Tom Beggs Jr., after serving in World War I, returned home and entered the family business. After he expanded his education by attending the Cincinnati College of Embalmers in 1919, he became one of the first embalmers in the state of Florida.

In 1920, T.J. Beggs Jr. married Miss Frances Wadsworth and to them were born five children: Frances, Ann, Tommy, Ashley and Billy.

In 1933 T. J. Beggs Sr, better known as Tom, passed away. Little Tom continued to run the family business. In 1953 it moved to its present location at 235 NW Orange Ave in Madison, Florida.

By 1956, all three boys had finished their military duty and were all back in the business with their father. Around 1973, Tommy, Ashley and Billy bought out their fathers interest and became a Professional Association. Beggs has operated the North Florida Vault Services since 1979.

Beggs opened their doors in Perry, Florida, serving the Taylor County area in 1999. Beggs Funeral Home – Perry Chapel is located at 201 W Main St., and is owned by T.J. Beggs Jr. and Sons, Inc. It is housed in the "old" First Presbyterian Church.

For this long family operation we thank God and the people of Madison County for allowing us to serve them. We also think back to our predecessors and the wonderful employees that preceded, who helped make T.J. Beggs Jr. and Sons, Inc. what it is today.

We instill in each employee the desire to keep this fine tradition going and thank them for being a part of T.J. Beggs Jr. and Sons, Inc.
