Rev. Manning J. Hicks, Jr.

Madison: Rev. Manning J. Hicks, Jr. was born on October 26, 1925 in Lee, Florida. Funeral Services were held at First Baptist Church Madison, Fl, on June 16, 2015. Interment was at Midway Cemetery.   His parents were Manning J. Hicks, Sr. and Manda Thomas Hicks, both deceased.   He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Letha Buchanan Hicks, three children: Rose Hicks Oberlin of Jacksonville, Lynne Hicks Sapp of Madison, and Manning Jay Hicks III of Madison, three grandchildren: Stephanie Sapp, Christie Sapp Bradfield (Troy) and Kayla Sapp; two great grandchildren: Bailie and Clayton Bradfield, one sister: Corene Hicks Frier of Gaston South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by two sisters: one who died at birth, and Gracie Hicks Webb; two brothers: Chatman Hicks and Cecil Hicks.   He held a Bachelor Degree from Valdosta State University and Southeastern Baptist Seminary. He also earned a Master’s in Divinity from Southeastern Seminary, and Master’s and Specialist Dgrees from Georgia State University.   He was a Baptist preacher for 70 years, pasturing churches in Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia, and serving as Director of Missions for the Middle Florida Baptist Association. He was also a schoolteacher, teaching Georgia and U.S. History for twenty years.  He loved the Lord his God with all his heart. soul, mind, and strength; and he loved his neighbor as himself.   Beggs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements 850-973-2258.
