PURVIS KAY HAMRICK
April 17, 1932 - January 26, 2020
Purvis Kay (P.K.) Hamrick, age 87, passed away January 26, 2020 at his home on the family farm west of Greenville, Florida. He was born April 17, 1932 on the same farm to the late Reuben F. and Eddie Scott Hamrick. He lived his entire life on the same farm. He was the third generation to own and operate the family farm. Farming ran deep in his blood. Thru the years, he had produced beef, pork, tobacco, corn, hay, and various other crops. He particularly enjoyed working with his cows. He had a strong work ethic and worked every day on his farm until age 82 when health problems forced him to retire. In 1978, his family was named "Madison County's Outstanding Farm Family" and in 1993, he was named "Conservation Farmer of the year." He had served on the Board of Directors for the Madison County Tobacco Warehouse, the Madison Farmers Co-op, and the ASCS office. He was very proud that the fourth and fifth generations were carrying on the farming tradition. He was a 1949 graduate of Greenville High School. In his Senior year, when the bus drivers owned the school buses, he would often drive his father's bus route to deliver students to school. Mr. Hamrick was an avid and talented fisherman. No matter if it was his farm ponds, local rivers, lakes, or the Gulf of Mexico, he was always ready for a fishing trip. Funeral Services will be at ll:00 Wednesday at Beggs Chapel in Madison, FL. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville, FL. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Beggs Chapel. He is survived by his wife of 60 years , Antonia ( Toni) Hamrick, two sons, Carl Hamrick (Edna), Wayne Hamrick both of Greenville, three daughters, Brenda Williams (Carl) of Savannah, GA, Cindy McCray (Bobby) of Boston, GA, and Alacia Cone (Jeffery) of Greenville, FL; his grandchildren, Melissa Stephens, Jeffery Hamrick, Angela Haines, Jennifer Martin, Nikki Abshire, Dr. William Cone, DMV, Amanda Shelnutt, and Allison Cone. He had ten greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings. Allie Mae Lewis, Vera Cone, Edna Earl Williamson, R.S. Hamrick, Reba Hamrick, Genevieve (Ginny) Sykes, and Lavonne (Bonnie) Bishop. He was also predeceased by a daughter, April Brannen, and a grandson, Kevin Martin. T.J. Beggs Jr. & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
