Loren L. Rademacher

July 24, 1923 - August 20, 2017

Loren L. Remacher, 94, of Dowling Park, Florida entered eternal life on Sunday, August 20, 2017, surrounded by his family after a long and happy life. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances (Bixler) Rademacher Born July 24, 1923 in Loup City, Nebraska, Loren was the fifth son of Henry and Catherine (Patz) Rademacher. He spent his childhood on the family farm, and graduated as valedictorian of Wiggle Creek School in 1941. He attended Hastings Business College in Hastings, Nebraska before going to work for the War Department in Washington, DC in 1942 where he was among the first employees at the newly constructed Pentagon. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving in the Pacific theater aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Cabot (CVL-28), and then ashore in Hilo, Territory of Hawaii. He left the Navy as an Aviation Radioman Second Class in 1946. After the war, Loren continued his government service at the Records Administration Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and St. Louis, Missouri. In 1957, he went to work for the Atomic Energy Commission in Idaho Falls, Idaho and later in Germantown, Maryland. He retired in 1979 from what had become the Department of Energy. Loren and Frances moved to Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, Florida in 2002 following 38 years as a resident of Damascus, Maryland.In Damascus, he was a member of the Lions Club, serving as its president, and belonged to the American Legion and the VFW. Loren loved to travel, taking pride in having visited all 50 states and several European countries. He was a prolific reader and loved studying maps. His family often thought of him as a human GPS. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and watching sports. In his final years, he also enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee, attending concerts with Frances, but most of all, visits from his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren ranging in age from five months to eleven years In addition to his wife, Frances, he is survived by his children, Karen (Rademacher) Walters and husband Peter of Waynesboro, PA; Sandra (Rademacher) Lombardi and husband Anthony of Orrtana, PA; Thomas Rademacher of Lancaster, CA; a sister, Margaret Sorensen and Husband Don of Loup City, NE, as well as six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Elvin, Leonard, Harry, and Harold. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 28, 2017 at Bixler Memorial Chapel, Advent Christian Village, Dowling Park, Florida, Pastor Jason Hilliard, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to Advent Christian Village Benevolent Fund, and sent to PO Box 4305 Dowling Park, FL 32064.
