Milledgeville, Georgia: Harry Eugene Drake, 89, passed away September 7, 2017 in Augusta, Ga. A Graveside Service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Madison, Florida on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at 10:30 AM. He was born in Adrian, Ga., but lived his younger life in Lakeland, Fl. He joined the Army at the end of WWII and served under General Douglas Macarthur during the Allied occupation of Japan. Harry loved his country and was always interested in the politics. He attended the University of Florida, graduating from the School of Forestry. He was always a Florida Gator. He worked for International Paper Company in a supervisory position in the Woodlands Department around the Southeast for 35 years before retiring. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and was a true Christian. He was proud of his ancestry and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. The Society of American Foresters was also an important part of his life and profession. His parents, Leon Lewis Drake, Sr. and Elizabeth White Drake, and a brother, Leon Drake, Jr. preceded him in death. His wife, Marilyn, one daughter, Barbara Drake, of Milledgeville, a son, Richard Drake, and hiswife, Alla, along with four grandchildren, Laura, David, Paul, and Mark, allwho live in Molena, Ga., survive him; he is also survived by one sister, Neva Patton, a brother-in-law and lifelong friend, William Patton, and a nephew and several nieces.
