Edna Lois Wainright

December 3, 1916 - January 13, 2014

Mrs. Lois K. Wainright, widow of Roy Wainright, peacefully departed this life at her home in Madison on January 13, 2014. She was the daughter of William M. and Nancy V. Pickels. She was born in Madison County on December 3, 1916, and raised on a farm with her seven siblings. She was a faithful member of the Madison First Baptist Church for 63 years and member of the Dorcus/Mary Martha Sunday School Class. Lois and her late husband Roy, also known as PaPa, were well known in the community since they managed the Winn Dixie store in Madison for over 25 years before their retirement. Following retirement from Winn Dixie, she was the bookkeeper at Mac's Furniture Store in Madison for several years. She was affectionately known by almost everyone as "Gangie" and was famous for her sour cream pound cakes and ten layer chocolate cakes which she made for many important church functions, other activities, relatives, and friends. As the matriarch of the William M. Pickels family, she was the hub for reunions and other family activities for many years and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She is survived by three children: Col Don Kellum (Martha) of Sumter, SC, Nancy McGriff of the home in Madison, and Ann Croasdell of Winter Park; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy P. Newsome of Ponchatoula, LA; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at Beggs Funeral Home in Madison at 11:00 a.m., on January 15, 2014. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery following the Funeral Service. Roy L. Saint and Gabe Krell will officiate. Pallbearers will be Grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church 1898 Sanctuary Fund or Big Bend Hospice in Madison.
