Mrs. Ruthie Mae McCreary

Mother Ruthie Mae Murphy McCreary was born on January 26, 1930 in Madison Florida to Bennie Murphy Sr. and Mamie Wyche Murphy. Mother McCreary was one of five children born to this union. The union between Bennie Murphy Sr. and Fannie Pryor Murphy blessed Mother McCreary with a loving second mother and five additional siblings. Mother McCreary former husband, Kermit Roosevelt McCreary preceded her in death. Recognizing her need for the Lord, Mother McCreary confessed years ago, Jesus Christ as her savior. She became a full member of Mt. Zion A.M.E church, Cherry Lake, Florida. At Mt. Zion, Mother McCreary served as Treasure of Independent Pallbearer number one, choir member, a Missionary, Trustee, and a Steward board member. Mother McCreary was also involved as an Amicae member or “Friends of Zetas” associated with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. of Madison, Fl. She was also a member of The Order of Eastern Star, AREME Chapter. Education for Mother McCreary was attained in the schools of Madison County. She completed 12th grade and attended some college. In providing for her family Mother McCreary exhibited good work ethics. She was employed in various positions which all included assisting others. Just to name a few, Domestic manageress, Nursing Assistant at Madison County Memorial Hospital, Social Worker at Human Health and Rehabilitative Services, Group Home operator. Mother McCreary was the first African American hired at HRS in Madison County. Mother McCreary was employed at HRS from 1971-1991, assisting children, the elderly and persons with disabilities. Today the work she did continues to speak for her. While residing and working in Atlanta GA, God placed very special jewels in Mother McCreary’s life, daughter Lynn Garson and the Garson family. After retiring from Health and Rehabilitative Services, Mother McCreary continued her passion serving others. She owned and operated Flower’s group home for 36 years. She was not just the operator to the clients she serve. She became known as “Mother” to her special girls, Rachel Johnson, Jackie Arnold and Mamie Dora Bell. A superb cook and an outstanding lawn and garden keeper, Mother McCreary always found ways to keep her table spread with love and joy for her family, friends and the community. Mother McCreary truly had a “green thumb”. Every season of the year you may admire beautiful blooming flowers, fruits and vegetables in her yard and garden. Mother McCreary’s greatest attribute was her devotion to her beloved children and family. Her title as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother brought her unconditional love and joy. Although she has departed from this earthly realm a Mother McCreary’s Legacy of Love Lives on Forever. On Sunday afternoon, December 25, 2022 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia, God summoned Mother Ruthie McCreary home for a righteous crown. She leaves to cherish her love and legacy to her daughter, Patricia Trotman Boyd of Wimauma, Florida sons: Stanley (LaFrenchee) McCreary, Madison, Florida and Anthony (Brandi) McCreary, Valdosta Georgia. One sister, Dorothy Strozier (Curtis) Phoenix, Arizona, Bennie Jr. (Catherine) Murphy and Charlie Alfred (Evelyn) Murphy of Madison FL. Nine grandchildren; Renee Warner, Jermaine, Johnathon, and Jason Trotman, Stannon R. McCreary, Reanayla McCreary Collins, Stavon McCreary, Ramses and Azira McCreary. Sixteen great grandchildren : Alexxus Allen, Keeyahnee Trotman, JaQuez Trotman, JaQuay Trotman, Janel Trotman, Jelani Trotman, T’ajdre Chucks Timesha Walker, Devin Warner:, Janyla and Jamari Trotman: Avarian McCreary, Michael Collins ll, Francesca McCreary, Stannon R. McCreary Jr. Colby Scott Two great-great grandchildren; Marley and Rhyze Johnson and Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.. Other than her parents, Mother McCreary was preceded in death by her three sisters, Annie Jane Murphy Thomas, Mary Murphy Mobley, Margie Murphy Pryor; her brothers, Joe Murphy Sr., Edward Murphy and Robert Wright.
